The Cumbria Packraft Traverse is a 180  kilometre route across Cumbria, starting in the estuaries of Morecambe Bay, then following the River Leven, Lake Windermere, Brothers Water, Goldrill Beck, Ullswater, River Eamont and finally the River Eden to the Solway Firth.

It invloves also a hike from Haverthwaite to Newby Bridge (4 miles) and a tough 8 mile hike over Scandale Pass (1500 feet) 

It was first completed in 4 days in August 2020 by Thomas Phillips and Alistair Shawcross.

 HAZARDS

Morecambe Bay has dangerous sands and very fast tides (faster then you can run) so you need to have researched your timings and route very carefully. A safer option is to start at Greenod to the North of the Leven Viaduct. You will still be traversing from Coast to Coast.

Weirs on the river Eamont and Eden are dangerous, and there are rapids on the Eden that are grade 3 white water. You need to portage around all of these.

Fallen trees on all rivers can be a hazard, especially in high water levels.

The Solway Firth has rapidly rising tides. 1 metre an hour of heght gain

The map below shows a finish at Bowness on Solway - that is an extra 10kms or so and is tidal again
